The Simple Things…

It’s the time of year that we all get lost in the hustle and bustle and some how wind up completely overwhelmed.  Whew.  I get exhausted just thinking about all that I need to get done, but last week during my sessions I had an opportunity to sit, observe and remember “just the simple things”.

Fortunately for me, my clients were running a little late and I happen to see this old clothes line near by.  It was a perfect fall afternoon; we were surrounded by amazing color and just a slight breeze.  The sweetest, wiser (old) lady walked out of her door with a basket and some wooden clothes pins.  Just to make it clear…I am a REAL country girl living in the city.  My family comes from South Georgia and there were many summer days that we spent down on the farm shucking corn, shelling peas and hulling pecans.  During those times, there were no cell phones and certainly no internet.  All that we had to worry about was good old fashion heat and humidity, and some QUALITY time with each other.  So when I spotted this clothes line my mind instantly raced back to the farm.  Anyway, it literally took this sweet lady 20 minutes to hang these 3 pieces of clothes and even though I wasn’t in hearing distance of her, I could just imagine that she was whistling while she worked without a care in the world.  There were no distractions for her that day, no deadlines that she was rushing to achieve and certainly no “to do” list that just HAD to be managed.  Something about that day made me long for “the simpler times” and the smell of air dried sheets on a beautiful fall afternoon.  If you have never slept on a bed with sheets that have blown in the breeze all afternoon, then you have really missed out on one of the TRUE simple pleasures.

Life is short, and goes by quickly.  I vow to take the time today, and I hope every day, to love the ones that I love dearly, laugh until my belly aches, and always take the time to make memories that will last a lifetime, but most of all let’s all remember that God’s gift is still the greatest gift of all!

Happy Thursday!

ENJOY!!!

You’re right – sheets from the line are definitely one of life’s true simple pleasures! I will always remember that smell from my childhood, and I think I definitely need to get a clothesline so my kids will too!

Having just lost my Grandmother this past Friday night with services yesterday, this rings loud and clear to me – to take time to appreciate life and love those around me… there are so many days I wish my daughter could grow up in a simpler world, as much as I love technology. Thanks for this.
