After a brief moment of hesitation before boarding the plane to Ecuador, there has been NO turning back and NO regrets! It’s so inspiring to have joined forces with such an amazing group of photographers, and even more importantly, people just like you and me with hearts that are overflowing with love and warmth.
Our first day was quite simply rich with emotion of all kinds. We laughed, we cried, we loved and we shared ourselves completely. When I peered through the camera at the innocent faces of the children, I instantly regretted what my lens couldn’t capture: the constant chatter of the fluent Spanish being spoken all around me. The sweet, high pitched belly laughs coming from all corners of the orphanage. The fresh, clean smell that surrounded me as I held tight to a child that may not have been hugged in weeks. But the camera would see the longing that each and every one of them has to be loved and how just a little attention can cause a shy, timid child to blossom in just a brief moment! It is the twinkle in their eyes that reminds me why I am not only here, but that I’m supposed to be here!!!
What a gift you are giving them and what a gift you are receiving. I can’t imagine what your presence means to them. You are such a blessing! Laura
