A Little Hankerin’ for Lemonade…

Honestly, it has rained EVERY SINGLE day since I got back to Chicago last week, but I’m still holding on to the hope that this great city isn’t going to completely skip Spring all together this year.  You know me…I even have my piggy toes all shined up, and I will NOT wear BOOTS and OVERCOATS in April and certainly not in May.

So in honor of my devoted love for all things yellow and especially Spring, despite all of the rain outside, I thought today I’d share just a shot or two of some good ole Springtime lemonade from Tommer’s Corner in Aubutn, Alabama.

If you are like me and have always wondered what all the fuss about Toomer’s Corner is all about…this should help clear it all up:

In many ways, the town of Auburn, Alabama, is like other college towns across the United States. Auburn is a place that is typically quiet and traditional, providing an excellent atmosphere for students to focus on their studies. But when the Auburn sports teams enjoy a victory, watch out, that is when Toomer’s Corner comes alive, and you never know just what to expect.

Toomer’s Corner is a historic location that is tied into the oldest traditions of the Auburn University Tigers. The location gets it’s name from Toomer’s Drug Store, which has stood at Toomer’s Corner since the late 19th Century, and is still in operation to this day at it’s original location.

Toomer’s Drug Store is a historic location in itself, and is reported to make the best Lemonade in the United States. It is rumored that when John Heisman, for whom football’s Heisman trophy is named, coached at Auburn University in the 1890s, he would visit Toomer’s Drug Store for this refreshing beverage. The drink was thrust into the national spotlight in 2001, when Toomer’s lemonade ranked number 1 in Esquire Magazine’s “162 Reasons It’s Good To Be An American” compilation.

Of course, to the students who attend Auburn University, Toomer’s Corner has an entirely different significance. Sure, the drug store and lemonade add to the historic appeal of this unique location, but the students have formed their own traditions with Toomer’s Corner. As is often the case, the local sports teams form the foundation of these traditions, and game day is what brings Toomer’s Corner to life.

ENJOY!!!
